The day was (and we were) really wet by the time we reached the junction of Routes 233 and 198. Fortunately, Rich had already found this mark several years ago, so we could simply park and run directly to it. He held back the branches of a nearby tree so I could get a decent view, and I took some quick photographs while trying to keep the camera dry. Like the others along this route, this disk is in good condition. We did not see the utility pole mentioned in the description.
A report on the condition of this mark was submitted to NGS, along with the following recovery note:
Recovered in good condition. Handheld GPS coordinates for the mark are 44 21 51.3(N) 068 18 31.3(W).

DESCRIBED BY MAINE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT (NOW MEDT) 1977 1.6 MI ESE FROM SOMESVILLE. LOCATED AT THE HIGHWAY JUNCTION OF ROUUE 198 AND 233 ON MOUNT DESERT ISLAND AT THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF ACADIA NATIONAL PARK. THE BM IS A STANDARD DEPARTMENT OF INTERIOR ALUMINUM SURVEY DISK, IN THE WESTERLY CORNER OF THE HIGHWAY LEDGE CUT, 27 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE CENTER OF ROUTE 098, 435 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE HIGHWAY JUNCTION OF ROUTES 198 AND 233, 95.5 FEET NORTH OF UTILITY POLE 253/454, 109 FEET EAST OF UTILITY POLE 453. THE MARK IS ABOVE LEVEL WITH HIGHWAY.
